Under the authority of the DoD Chief FOIA Officer, Mr. Michael L. Rhodes, Director of Administration and Management (DA&M), Office of the Secretary of Defense, the DoD Freedom of Information Office is responsible for the formulation and implementation of Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) policy for the Department of Defense (DoD).

The DoD FOIA program operates under a decentralized approach. No single office has access to all the DoD records and information. The DoD Freedom of Information Office oversees policy for 32 different components. Please submit requests to these individual components.

Instructions for submitting a FOIA request may be found in the DoD Freedom of Information Handbook or by visiting the individual DoD FOIA Requester Service Centers websites at Military Services, Department of Defense Agencies, and Combatant Commands
