The DoD Freedom of Information Office (DFOIPO) offers training programs for DoD personnel who deal with FOIA and/or Privacy issues. Below is the listing of Fiscal Year 2012 and 2013 courses, past and future:

Upcoming DoD FOIA Training courses:

DoD National Capitol Region FOIA/PA Training Workshop: Springfield VA; National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) Headquarters June 17th-June 19th 2013. This is a three-day workshop for FOIA/PA professionals and attorneys in the National Capital Region to gain knowledge and remain abreast of FOIA/PA statutes, policy, guidance, and available resources. Component break-out sessions will be offered in the afternoon of day 3 of the training workshop. DoD FOIA/PA Training Workshop: Southbridge, Massachusetts; Southbridge Hotel & Conference Center August 27th-August 29th 2013. FOIA/PA Training with a possible extra day on Monday or Friday for a Conflict Resolution/Customer Relations course

FOIA Chat: Online Regular chats with the FOIA community chaired by Division Chief, Will Kammer and DFOIPO Chief Jim Hogan. Please contact us at DFOIPOtraining@whs.mil if you are a DoD FOIA professional who is interested in participating in this training.

FOIA 101 Training: Online This basic introductory course centered on processing a FOIA request is offered biannually by DFOIPO. The last FOIA 101 training was held on May 9th 2013. DoD FOIA professionals throughout the country and abroad access the training via a secure online connection using Defense Connect Online (DCO). FOIA 101 trainings are announced on this page as well as through the chain of command within the respective components.

DoD FOIA/PA Training Workshop in Knoxville, Tennessee: October 30th-November 1st 2012. Please see the Agenda for the material discussed. DoD FOIA/PA Training Workshop in Padova, Italy: June 5th-7th 2012. Please see the Agenda for the material discussed.

DoD-wide FOIA/PA Training Workshop in San Diego, CA: April 10th-12th 2012. Please see the Agenda for the material discussed.

FOIA/PA Training hosted by NORTHCOM in Colorado Springs, CO: October 4th-6th 2011. Please see the Agenda for the material discussed.

Conflict Resolution/Customer Relations Training at the Pentagon and the Mark Center in Alexandria VA: January 17, January 19th and March 1st 2012. This training honed in on those skills which help FOIA professionals as they relate and interact daily with FOIA customers (Requesters, Document Owners, Subject Matter Experts, etc.).

FOIA 101 Training: at the Mark Center in Alexandra VA on February 15th 2012. This was a day-long training presented in person and via a secure online connection using Defense Connect Online (DCO) to reach DoD FOIA professionals throughout the country and abroad.
